TO DIE, OR NOT TO DIE?

Jesus said,  “He that  loveth  his  life  shall lose it: and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal.”  To love life in the sense in which Jesus was speaking would be to cater to all the whims and appetites of the natural man irrespective of God’s will.  It is to live one’s life apart from God.  It is to want everything “my way.”  It is the life of self-pleasing.  In the end, it results in life’s eternal destruction.

To hate one’s life sounds harsh to our ears.  It is used in a comparative sense—to love our fleshly life less than we love God and His will for our lives.  Self-gratification ceases to be one’s purpose for living.  Jesus becomes the source and meaning for the believer’s life.  He compares our life to that of a seed that is planted, dies, but produces new life, bearing the fruit of the Spirit (John 12:24).  When one dies to self he/she finds true life both now and in eternity.

It is your decision: “to die, or not to die.”

The message this Sunday a.m.: “To Die, or Not To Die.”
