THE COMMON DENOMINATOR

An elementary lesson in math is that in order to combine fractions, all must be reduced to a “common denominator,” such as to add ˝ and 1/3 they must be changed to 6/12 and 4/12, totaling 10/12 or 5/6.  Jesus prayed for the unity of all believers (John 17:21).  But our unity is not found in any denominational system.  Tying two cats’ tails together may be a union, but it certainly is not unity.  Nor is unity the artificial merging of churches as churches water down their teachings, compromising convictions.  The common denominator is Christ.  Galatians 3:28 declares, “Ye are all one in Christ.” We must have allegiance not to church-doctrine, but to the teaching of His word, the truth, which Jesus said “shall make you free” (John 8:32).  What a blessing it would be if all who claim to be Christians would have amnesia to the point of forgetting all denominational allegiances and base all teaching and practice upon the word of God only.

The message this Sunday a.m.: “The Unity of All Creation.”
