Have you visited our web site this week? New material is posted each week. See “Christian Evidences/Apologetics Press” in English and Spanish. May 25, 2007The Bible-A Mirror It is easy to justify oneself by comparing self with others. One can always find someone meaner, more evil, more hateful, etc. However, if any of us would compare ourselves with Jesus we would immediately be convicted. Likewise, as we look into the Bible we find ourselves to be sinners. We see ourselves as we really are-”guilty before God” (Romans 3:19). Many fear to face the Bible; some would seek to destroy it; but the penitent will cry out, “O wretched man that I am!” (Romans 7:24). It is because in the Bible we behold the glory of God’s holiness, and realize how far short we come. Paul wrote, “we all, with open face, beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, we are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord” (2 Corinthians 3:18). As we humble self before God, acknowledging our waywardness, and in faith repent of our sins and are baptized into Christ, He graciously shares His glory with us (Acts 2:38; Romans 6:1-4; 2 Corinthians 5:17). The Bible is that mirror to show us what we are and what we can be by His grace.
