THE SEED
In what is commonly referred to as “The Parable of the Sower” (Luke 8:4-15), little attention is sometimes paid to the seed the sower sowed. While the sower is important for there to be a harvest, and the soil as well, the principle of life is found only in the seed. The seed of the kingdom is identified in verse 11 as “the word of God.” It is not human philosophies, nor is it proclamations from denominational councils. The word of God for us is simply that word given by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, which will “thoroughly furnish unto all good works” (2 Timothy 3:16-17). This seed is sown in human hearts (the soil) by the sower (all who “preach the word” [2 Timothy 4:2]). That seed, by itself, will produce the same “crop” as it did in the days of the New Testament—Christians. Denominational dogmas will produce members of denominations, but the gospel alone is “the power of God unto salvation” (Romans 1:16). Peter spoke of this life-giving power, when he wrote, “Being born again...by the word of God...” (1 Peter 1:23). In the New Testament, all who believed that word, repented and were baptized were considered Christians, washed in the blood of Christ. (Read Mark 16:15-16; Acts 2:38; Romans 6:3-4).
